Painted Crosswalk Project: Portion of Largo's Central Park Drive to Close for Street Mural

A portion of Central Park Drive will be closed to through traffic Friday, April 19 through Sunday, April 28 for the beautification of the Central Park Drive crosswalk with a new street mural. The City of Largo partnered with Creative Pinellas to identify a local Pinellas County artist and received 15 applications from their Call-to-Artists. A panel of City team members, two local artists, and Mayor Woody Brown reviewed all applications and selected artist, Emily Tayman (emilytaymanart.com) for her impressive portfolio including work in neighboring cities and fresh ideas to bring to the new crosswalk mural.

The pedestrian crosswalk is located between the Largo Public Library and Central Park Performing Arts Center, in the center of Central Park Drive. The current mural was painted on the crosswalk in 2018 and after nearly six years of enjoyment, it has worn down due to roadway use and general wear and tear. The artist will bring a fresh design that promotes the City’s strategic focus areas and prioritizes pedestrian and traffic safety.

Central Park Drive will be closed to all through traffic between East Bay and 8th Ave while the artist is painting. All public parking lots will remain open on either side of Central Park Drive. The Largo Public Library and Central Park Performing Arts Center will remain open during their regular business hours and maintain scheduled programming for residents and visitors to continue to enjoy. Please note that public access to the library parking lot is available from 8th Ave only. The sidewalks on either side of Central Park Drive will remain open for those visiting facility programs or enjoying the amenities at Largo Central Park.
