Fireworks are quite a sight to see during the Fourth of July holiday, and even more exciting to view at one of the largest fireworks shows in Pinellas County here in Largo. However, when fireworks are not set off by professionals, over 9,000 fireworks injuries are reported due to unsafe firework set-off, fireworks are the causes of nearly 19,000 fires annually.

Nonprofits including faith-based organizations that serve Largo residents (can be located outside city limits) are invited to a follow-up Community Conversation on July 15. At the Community Conversation, city team members will share more details about the grant program and application process. The City will be looking for feedback directly from those nonprofits the grant is designated for to inform how the process may be improved before launch, so it is as user-friendly as possible.

This June, Mayor Woody Brown attended the American Flood Coalition’s (AFC) Mayor's Summit on Flooding and Sea Level Rise in Washington, D.C. AFC convened two dozen mayors and local leaders to explore and share solutions to flooding and sea-level rise and build relationships with members of Congress and their staff.

As part of the update of the City of Largo’s Sustainability and Resilience Action Plan (SRAP), Largo is hosting a series of free Community Climate Sessions. These sessions will explore how climate change has already been impacting the community and what other changes we may experience in the future. Attendees will have to opportunity to connect with neighbors, share ideas about strengthening the community, and help shape the future of the SRAP.

As part of the current roadway restoration on 20th Street, beginning Tuesday, May 17, the City's contractor will begin construction on the northbound lane of 20th Street between West Bay Drive and Melhenbacher Road. The northbound lane will be closed and northbound traffic will not be permitted between West Bay Drive and Melhenbacher.
