Residential Parking Regulations

The City of Largo and the State of Florida have established standards and regulations for on-street parking in neighborhoods to ensure the safety of residents and efficiency of the roadway.

Manner of Parking - Largo Code of Ordinances Section 16-70
Except where angle parking or parking on one-way streets is permitted by the Code or any other ordinance of the city, every vehicle stopped or parked upon a street where there is an adjacent curb must be stopped or parked with the right-hand wheels of such vehicle parallel with and within 12 inches of the right-hand curb.

Fines and penalties for violation of parking prohibitions - Largo Code of Ordinances Section 16-74
Fines up to $500 will be applied for violating parking prohibitions including, but not limited to, the following: double parking, leaving keys in the ignition, parking in a no-parking zone, and parking heavy trucks and semi-trailers on residential property.

Parking so as not to obstruct traffic - Largo Code of Ordinances Section 16-71
  • No person should park any vehicle upon a street in such a manner or under such conditions as to leave available less than 10 feet of the width of the roadway for free movement of vehicular traffic.
  • Where streets are not completely paved or curbs provided, the parking of a car should not take up more than 12 inches of the paved portion of the street.
Parking prohibited for certain purposes - Largo Code of Ordinances Section 16-65
No person should park a vehicle upon any street for the principal purpose of: displaying such vehicle for sale, washing, greasing or repairing such vehicle, except repairs necessitated by an emergency, displaying advertising, selling merchandise from such vehicle, except in a duly established marketplace, or when so authorized or licensed under this Code or any other ordinances of the city.

Stopping, standing, or parking prohibited in specified places - Florida Statutes Section 316.1945
Except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic, or in compliance with law or the directions of a police officer or official traffic control device, no person should: 
  • Stop, stand, or park a vehicle: on a sidewalk, within an intersection, on a crosswalk, on any railroad tracks, on a bicycle path, and/or at any place where official signs prohibit stopping, standing, or parking.
  • Stand or park a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except momentarily to pick up or discharge a passenger or passengers: in front of a public or private driveway, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, within 20 feet of a crosswalk or intersection, within 30 feet upon the approach to any flashing signal, stop sign, or traffic control signal located at the side of a roadway.
Parking of certain vehicles - Largo Code of Ordinances Chapter 11 Article III
Parking or storage of certain types of vehicles is prohibited within street right-of-ways or frontal building setbacks in residential areas. It is unlawful for any person to park, cause to be parked, or allow to be parked, placed, or stored any of the following hereinafter described vehicles or recreational equipment for a period of time exceeding three hours, unless actual loading or unloading is taking place: aircraft; boat; hauling trailer; recreational vehicles designed or utilized for permanent or temporary residence (e.g., motor homes, camping trailers); semitrailer truck; commercial vehicle designed or utilized for a commercial or industrial function, or any vehicle marked with or displaying exterior commercial advertising; inoperable vehicle either in whole or in part. The foregoing parking restrictions should not apply to commercial vehicles during the actual performance of a service at the premises where the same is parked. Neither should the foregoing parking restrictions apply to the loading, unloading or minor repairing or cleaning of recreational vehicles provided such act is fully completed within the shortest reasonable time period possible (under no circumstances longer than 48 hours.)
