Pinecrest Golf Course Purchase

At the Tuesday, May 17 Largo City Commission Meeting, City Commission approved an agreement with OB Golf Investment Group LLP to purchase a 26.7-acre property across the street from Taylor Park for $600,000. (Watch Meeting On-Demand | View Agenda Item)

The City desires to purchase the property for the primary purpose of developing a regional stormwater retention pond. Due to Pinellas County restrictions, the property is restricted for use as green or open space and cannot be used for housing, industrial, etc.  A stormwater retention pond on this site would strengthen the flood mitigation efforts for the city by creating a master stormwater system adjacent to the Medical Arts District and Downtown Largo that could support development and redevelopment projects in the area.

Over the course of the next eight months, the City will conduct a feasibility study to determine if a stormwater pond is even feasible on the property, assessing groundwater levels, soil, flooding, and an environmental assessment. If during the study it is determined the land cannot be used as intended, the city will not move forward with the purchase agreement.
