City of Largo Receives Florida Water Environment Association Award

The City of Largo received the Florida Water Environment Association (FWEA) 2021 Collection System of Year – Medium Utility Category Award during the Association’s annual meeting on April 27, 2021. The FWEA Collection System of the Year award was established in 2006 to recognize Wastewater Utilities who use Best Management Practices (BMP) and are considered outstanding in the maintenance and operation of their collection systems.

City of Largo’s Sanitary Sewer District serves over 23,000 residential and commercial accounts and a population of 105,000 citizens. This award was based on the high level of commitment to preventative maintenance, and significant investments to eliminate sewer backups and replace aging infrastructure. Largo’s continued efforts benefit regional water quality.

"This award represents the commitment City of Largo staff have to maintaining and operating a high-performing sanitary sewer collection system. I am very proud of their achievements," said Irvin Kety, Director, Environmental Services Department, City of Largo.
