The City of Largo's reclaimed water customers can look for an upcoming credit on bills mailed out in March and April 2020. Although reclaimed water service is not guaranteed, on November 21, 2019, the system was shut down because it was not meeting disinfection criteria. The issue was identified during regular water testing. The City of Largo decided to shut down the system to ensure the health and safety of our community and worked with the Department of Environmental Protection to get the system safely back online on December 10, 2019.
It is important to note that this incident did not affect drinking water coming from home bath and kitchen faucets. Reclaimed water is offered in particular areas of the City and is often used for watering lawns.
The Largo City Commission approved issuing credits to customers due to the length of time the system was offline. Residents will see an adjustment on their April or May utility statement in various amounts for one month of service ($5, $10 or $12.50). Commercial customers will receive an adjustment of $28-$35 for one month of service on their March statement. Questions on the reclaimed water system can be directed to Largo’s Environmental Services Department at (727) 518-3076 and questions on billing and credits can be directed to Largo’s Finance Department (727) 587-6761.
