Participate in Your Government

There are several ways for you to participate in your City Government.
Speak at Commission Meetings
Commission meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of the month at 6pm in the Commission Chambers at Largo City Hall. If you're interested in speaking during citizen comment, please read the Citizens' Guide to Participation in Largo City Commission Meetings.
Citizens' Academy
Talk to Commissioners. Ride in a Police car. Operate a side-loader. Create your own City budget. Peek behind the scenes at the Largo Cultural Center. Learn about downtown development. Dress like a firefighter. Watch the reclaimed water treatment process in action. Largo Citizens' Academy is your hands-on solution to learning about your government. If you've always wanted to get involved, but weren't sure where to start, the Citizens' Academy may be for you! Led by Largo City Commissioners and Department Directors, the Academy guides citizens first hand through the myriad of operations that keep Largo running. Academy participants will tour key facilities, learn the challenges facing future development, talk with City leaders about current issues and events affecting Largo, and work side by side with City staff members to learn about the essential functions they serve.

Citizens' Academy is a 10-week session that begins every year in September. Applications will be available in August. Continuing education credits (CEUs) will be offered.
Join an Advisory or Affiliate Board
Advisory Board members are appointed by the City Commission. Some boards make recommendations to the City Commission, where other boards, such as the Code Enforcement Board, have the authority to levy fines. View a comprehensive list of advisory boards and their descriptions. If you have been asked to apply, nominated, or wish to apply for consideration please fill out the application.

Affiliate Boards and Committees are boards not under the direct jurisdiction of Largo City Commission. These groups may provide guidance, financial support or volunteer support to various organizations within the City of Largo, but each is a self-supporting organization.
