The City of Largo is proud to welcome General Consul of Japan, Kenji Hirata, to Largo City Hall on Tuesday, December 11 at 4pm for a special award ceremony. The public is invited to celebrate the commendation from General Consul Hirata to Mr. George Feaster of the Lions Club for his years of service in nurturing positive sister city relations between Largo and Kami, Japan.
Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas. The Commendations also aim to promote the understanding and support of the Japanese public for the activities of the recipients. Since 1969, many residents of Largo and Kami, including students from their high schools, have enjoyed many opportunities for cultural experiences. The Largo Lions Club has twinned with Tosayamada Lions Club, as they were the originators of this international friendship.
When asked about the unique exchange, Mr. Feaster replied, "We are thrilled to celebrate the 50th year of our relationship with Kami in 2019 and are looking forward to welcoming more students and guests to the celebration next year." Residents are invited to join in the commendation on December 11, and for those wanting to participate on a larger scale, the Lions Club is also accepting applications for host families for November 2019.
