50 Years of Home Rule is Worth Celebrating

Fifty years ago, Floridians voted to amend the state’s Constitution to approve Home Rule powers for cities. This power allows each city and town across the Sunshine State to consider, adopt, revise or remove its own laws without having to ask state legislators in Tallahassee for permission. The 50th anniversary is a fitting time to learn more about Home Rule since it allows City of Largo Commission to take actions that are in the best interest of the City and its residents.

At the July 17, 2018 City Commission Meeting, Largo Commissioners recognized the 50th Year of Municipal Home Rule in Florida and remain committed to working with the State Legislature and the Governor’s Office, on behalf of Largo’s residents, to protect Home Rule.
