Largo Wins League of Cities Environmental Award

The Florida League of Cities recognized the City of Largo for paving the way for innovation and excellence in Environmental Stewardship.

Largo was recently announced as the 2018 winner of the 10th Annual Florida Municipal Achievement Awards, taking the top spot in the Environmental Stewardship Award for its annual Freecycle Event. During this event City staff collect items donated from residents and create a “marketplace” featuring items such as clothing, books, school supplies, kids toys and more. Residents are then invited to ‘shop’ for free where they are given a recycled, reusable bag, helping to provide them with needed resources and keeping items out of to the landfill.

“For the past decade, the Florida Municipal Achievement Awards have recognized cities that create standout programs to better serve their communities.” said Tallahassee City Commissioner and Florida League of Cities President Gil Ziffer. “These programs are perfect examples of cities at work, and the League is proud to recognize this year’s award winners for their success.”
