Top Tips for a Safe Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day is a solemn day of remembrance for everyone who sacrificed their lives in the United States armed forces. Thank you to those who served and to your families.

For many, it is also the day that marks the beginning of the summer holiday season. Many are attending BBQs and parties, traveling to the beach or on vacation. With that is an increase in traffic on our roadway and the Largo Police Department would like to remind everyone of a few safety tips so that we can all enjoy a safe and happy holiday.

  • Buckle up every time.
  • Distracted driving is dangerous. It's irresponsible and it causes crashes. Please put down your phone.
  • "Share the Road" with bicycles and motorcycles. Look twice and look for motorcycles.
  • Motorcyclists should make themselves visible to other traffic and drive responsibly.

Remember: Impaired driving is not acceptable. Someone is killed in a DUI crash every 51 seconds. Please designate a driver or use alternate transportation. It's not worth the risk.

Please have a safe and happy holiday.
