Largo Fire Rescue would like to encourage everyone to have a blast during the 4th of July weekend by playing it safe around fireworks. Did you know that more U.S. fires are reported on Independence Day than on any other day, and fireworks account for half of those fires, more than any other cause of fires? Did you know that in 2007, U.S. hospital emergency rooms treated an estimated 9,800 people for fireworks related injuries and that 56% of those injuries were to the extremities and 36% were to the head? So, let's choose a safer alternative to creating our own fireworks display by attending one of the biggest public displays in Pinellas County at Largo Central Park on Wednesday, July 4th. Activities begin at 6pm, the HUGE fireworks display begins at 9pm and it's all FREE. Remember, the only lawful fireworks for personal use are sparklers. All fireworks that fly or explode are dangerous and illegal. For more information about Largo's 4th of July Celebration visit LargoEvents.com or call 727-587-6740 ext. 5014. The City of Largo wishes you and your family a fun and safe Independence Day weekend!
