"Largo Updates" Spotlights New Businesses

Immediately after the City of Largo took the progressive steps and adopted its first ever Economic Development Plan, the Economic Development Division quickly went to work. One of the first initiatives the division undertook was the updating of the Economic Development website. "We understand that the internet is one of the best ways to get information out. We want our website to be one in which businesses in Largo or those that wish to relocate to Largo can quickly find desired information," says Amanda Montgomery, Economic Development Program Planner.

One of the newest features added to the website is a section called "Largo Updates." This is where businesses that are making an significant investment in Largo are highlighted. Such businesses include Bovie Medical, the Largo Diagnostic Clinic, as well as smaller businesses in downtown such as Sikorski's Deli and Gulf Coast Po' Boys.

"We feel that it is important that local businesses know we support them" says Teresa Brydon Economic Development Manager. In the Economic Development Plan one of the first goals outlined is the establishment and maintenance of good working relationships with businesses in the City through a coordinated business call and visitation program designed to

  • Keep quality firms and jobs in Largo, and
  • Facilitate the expansion of growing firms.

"We believe that Largo Updates is a step in the right direction toward achieving that goal" says Brydon.

While the list is not a comprehensive list it is designed to show that even in an economic slow down the City of Largo is still experiencing growth. The businesses highlighted are companies that either began in Largo, are headquartered here or chose to move to this area due to the outstanding workforce, community and economy. Each one of these businesses is an essential part of Largo's local economy not only because they provide local jobs but also because of their investments in the community.

The Economic Development website also provides demographic information, a list of available commercial properties, helpful economic development links and information on federal, state and local economic development incentives.
