Sign Incentive Program Coming This Fall!
On June 12, 2012, the Largo City Commission provided direction to staff to proceed with drafting an ordinance for the development of a program to provide an incentive for the early replacement of pole signs prior to the end of the City of Largo's amortization period, June 5, 2017. The amortization period, adopted in June 2007 by ordinance for a new sign code, allows property owners a period of ten years from the date of adoption to transition and replace pole signs with monument signs. The City adopted the new side code in 2007 with the goal to allow monument signs rather than pole signs for the purposes of creating a street environment that is safe for both pedestrians and traffic, and to enhance the aesthetics and character of the City's streetscapes.
Staff is currently developing a draft ordinance to present to the City Commission for adoption this summer for a program to begin in Fall 2012 at the beginning of the new 2012-2013 Fiscal Year.
