This past January the State of Florida launched a powerful web site designed to help job seekers and students of all ages in search for the right job, and to help employers identify the best job candidates. The site is a valuable resource for policy makers, researchers, and others seeking to explore and analyze local labor markets in Florida. The data on this website includes a mix of job options, including openings, career exploration, employer information and education and labor market research. This site is distinguishable from other sites, in that it is specifically for military Veterans.

In Florida, there are thousands of jobs, and not all are easy to find. For many service men and women, it's even harder tougher to find a job when they have been away from home for a while. One report states that the unemployment rate for Florida National Guard Soldiers is estimated at 17 percent, while the state's current unemployment rate is 9.9 percent. Veterans returning from combat zones experience an even higher unemployment rate - an estimated 40 percent are unemployed.

The new website includes a toll-free number that business owners can call to find a veteran for an open position with their business. Governor Scott has explained that Workforce Florida will be working with specialists to tap into the skilled talent pool of military Veterans. Workforce will be working with the National Guard to help Veterans with their job search and will be urging businesses to take advantage of the program.
