November 11 Story of the Week

Do You Know of a Business or Business Owner that is a Community Champion?

Do you know of a business professional that is worthy of recognition for their contributions to the community? Do know of an individual whose volunteer work, charitable work, leadership or handiwork deserves praise? If you know someone who is an agent of change, submit their name for nomination as part of the Community Champion Recognition Program. In September 2011, the City of Largo launched the awards program to celebrate the unique and significant contributions to Largo.

Nominations aren't limited to businesses or business professionals. Any Largo area resident or organization can be nominated as well. The program is part of the ongoing implementation of the City of Largo's Strategic Plan. Five categories were formed to nominate individuals for their efforts in Community Building, Community Stewardship, Community Safety, Community Beautification, and Community Preservation. The program nominee should be an individual or a group that goes above and beyond for the community and strives to involve others in their efforts.

Don't let the deadline pass you by - November 30, 2011 is the last day the City will be accepting nominations. Find out more about the program and complete a nomination form at www.largo.com/champion or send a nomination to Tom Moore, Neighborhood Coordinator at neighborhood@largo.com. You may also contact Tom at (727) 587-6749 x 7217. The nomination form must include a short description of the nominees significant contribution to the quality of life in Largo, along with an explanation of how the nominee has shown initiative or the ability to go above and beyond in making their contribution. Last, include a description of how the nominee has gotten other residents, neighbors, businesses or friends involved in these endeavors.

The winners will be announced in January 2012. This opportunity only comes along once a year. Take advantage of this program to showcase your business' corporate responsibility activities and how they contribute to making the City of Largo a better place to live, work and play.
