This is a cooperatively funded project through Agreement Number N250 between the City of Largo and the Southwest Florida Water Management District. This project will provide improvements to the upland cut outfall ditch located east of Barlow Drive and west of Twin Lakes Drive from Sunset Drive to Bluffs Drive, which is a tributary to a downstream canal/creek system known as McKay Creek. The banks of the existing outfall ditch are overtaken by exotic and invasive vegetation and have eroded to a condition that requires complete reconstruction. The improvements will consist of stabilizing the channel slopes with gabion baskets to prevent ongoing bank erosion and and constructing a concrete ramp to improve maintenance access. The project will also include a sediment trap, enhanced wet detention zones and vegetative plantings, which are designed to improve downstream water quality. The purpose of the treatment provided is not to meet any regulatory requirements, but is to improve overall water quality within the watershed.
