Professional Background:From 1974 to 1976, Commissioner Murray worked as Lead Mechanic with Island Helicopters in Garden City, New York, performing line maintenance and overhaul on many different models of helicopters; implementing manufacturers' service bulletins and airworthiness directives; troubleshooting and repairing aircraft that developed mechanical problems offsite; and directing technicians in the performance of their duties. Commissioner Murray retired from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office as a Senior Flight Mechanic after 32 years of service.  As the Senior Flight Mechanic, he maintained and managed the Sheriff's Office helicopters and airplanes. Commissioner Murray also serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor and an Online Adjunct Assistant Professor for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University providing instruction on campus and across the globe in aviation maintenance management, aircraft electrical systems, aircraft systems, structures and propulsion systems.

Commissioner Murray was appointed by the City Commission in May 2008 to fill a vacancy on the City Commission created by the resignation of Commissioner Andrew Guyette. In November 2008 he was elected to the City Commission for a three-year term which will expire in November 2011.
