Downtown Drainage Ponds Retrofit Project

The Downtown Drainage Ponds Retrofit Project is intended to improve the regional stormwater treatment system known as Bayhead Ponds, located behind the Bayhead Athletic Complex in Downtown Largo. The existing ponds provide stormwater retention and treatment for West Bay Drive and the redevelopment district located between 1st Avenue NW, 1st Avenue SW, Clearwater-Largo Road, and Seminole Boulevard. The pond is located in a residential area and after improvements are completed, will serve as an aesthetically pleasing walking trail with park-like amenities for the neighborhood. The project is made possible in part by an agreement with the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

The retrofit project will construct and install two irrigation pump stations and associated irrigation piping, a recreational trail, park amenities and associated landscaping and habitat restoration.
