Redevelopment Initiatives

Redevelopment in the City of Largo is a focus that the City has pursued in order to grow and strengthen the Largo community. Several initiatives have been conducted by the City in order to encourage redevelopment.

The City of Largo has two Community Redevelopment Districts (CRDs) that were established in order to target areas for revitalization (FS Chapter 163). The Districts are the West Bay Drive Community Redevelopment District and the Clearwater-Largo Road Community Redevelopment District (map). Both Districts have unique Plans to assist in revitalization of their areas.

In 2008, the City of Largo in conjunction with Pinellas County's Brownfield Program established the first Brownfield area for the City. The designated area includes the two CRD's and a commercial corridor to the east. Recently Largo in conjunction with Pinellas County designated a significant stretch of Ulmerton Road a Brownfield area. The City will continue to review areas within Largo where Brownfield designations can be beneficial to the property owners. The Largo City Commission approved the Downtown Largo Multimodal Plan in 2011. This project is another way the City is working to improve the quality of life in the greater Downtown Largo area while encouraging redevelopment.
