Volunteers in Policing

The Volunteers in Policing (VIP) program provides essential support to Largo Police Department's community policing initiatives by directly involving our citizens in the operations of the department.

VIP's are one of Largo Police Department's greatest resources. They are courteous observers that watch over our community. Without their dedicated assistance, community policing would be nearly impossible. Whether serving as support to a patrol officer or checking homes while residents are on vacation, a VIP is truly a Very Important Person. When you volunteer, you will have the opportunity to learn more about law enforcement while you are helping your community. You will meet new friends, develop your skills and experience the feeling of making a difference. Upon selection, all VIP's attend the VIP Academy.

VIPs are divided into two categories. Support Volunteers provide support within the department by assisting with paperwork and administrative duties, while Patrol Volunteers assist with non-hazardous patrol duties such as directing traffic and the department's Residential Security Check Service program.

All volunteers help disseminate information about crime prevention and traffic safety.
