City of Largo Strategic Plan

On April 17, 2012, the updated Strategic Plan and the FY2013-2014 implementation work program was adopted by the City Commission. To review the plan and work program, please click on the link below.

The City of Largo Strategic Plan serves as the community's response to Largo's most challenging issues. The Strategic Plan provides a vision for how commercial corridors will redevelop, how the business community will thrive, how infrastructure assets will be maintained, how transportation choices will be expanded, how parks and open space will be cultivated, and how neighborhoods will be preserved. The Strategic Plan is used to align City programming and capital improvements with the community's goals. Through implementation, the community and City government use the Strategic Plan to focus on common goals, guide community growth and change, and move closer to a reconnected community.

The City of Largo Strategic Plan is organized around six principles, as detailed below.

AC

Create Activity Centers and Mixed-Use Corridors

Redevelopment of Largo's major commercial centers and corridors will strengthen the local and regional economy, improve neighborhood residents' access to services and amenities, and reconfigure Largo's most congested corridors and dangerous intersections into walkable and transit-supportive community centers. business

Promote a Viable Business Community

Much of Largo's growth as a community depends upon the success of businesses in the City. Redevelopment strategies and infrastructure investments expand the City's capacity to grow, but Economic Development programming and superior customer service encourage and support the private investment necessary to realize that growth.

infrastructure

Improve Infrastructure to Support Sustainability

This principle features infrastructure improvement strategies that consider a number of key issues, including anticipated growth through redevelopment, expansion of bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and the inherent environmental impacts and spatial limitations related to a more urban and pedestrian-oriented community. The strategies also respond to increasingly strict regulations that direct the ways in which urban communities can grow.

community streets

Establish a Network of Community Streets

Implementation of the Community Streets principle focuses on establishing a multimodal level-of-service for all the roadways and trails within the City of Largo multimodal network, completing bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements, and developing standards to guide the design and implementation of future roads and trails within the defined network. parks trails and greenways

Expand Parks, Trails, and Greenways

Largo's system of parks, trails, and greenways remain a source of community pride. Over the next five years, the principle's objectives and implementation initiatives recommend developing a comprehensive plan for the development of the Urban Trail network; increasing efficiency in the parks and recreation system; and continuing to invest in greenways, natural areas, and open spaces. neighborhoods

Engage the Neighborhoods

Maintaining the quality of life in Largo's neighborhoods requires investment in the infrastructure that physically supports neighborhoods, and investment in the relationships that support neighborhood identity, pride, and participation. Through ongoing programming to keep neighborhoods safe, clean, and attractive, Largo will continue to retain long-standing residents and attract new residents. Through ongoing support of neighborhood leaders, Largo will continue to empower residents to advocate for their neighborhood and participate in the development of the community.
