Winery dogs

THE WINERY DOGS

Thursday, May 15 at 7:30pm

Richie Kotzen (Vocals and Guitar)
Billy Sheehan (Bass and Vocals)
Mike Portnoy (Drums and Vocals)

It would be easy to call The Winery Dogs a supergroup: Vocalist and guitarist Richie Kotzen made his mark with Poison and Mr. Big, bassist Billy Sheehan has been rocking for decades with Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Mr. Big and others, and drummer Mike Portnoy was the co-founder of progressive metal superstars Dream Theater. But The Winery Dogs are so much more than a supergroup.

The proof is in the brew: The Winery Dogs is an eclectic, fully realized group with songs that groove and swing without sacrificing any of the grit that makes great hard rock so inspiring.

Annexation Program

Planning Service Area (August 2012)
Annexation is the process set forth in the Florida Statutes that allows properties outside the current city limits to become part of the city. Throughout the City of Largo planning service area, there are some neighborhoods that are not within Largo City Limits.

All of these areas, technically located in unincorporated Pinellas County, face unique problems in the provision of services. Annexation allows businesses and residents to join the City of Largo and receive municipal services that are available to properties located within city limits. Since 1997, the City of Largo has pursued a comprehensive annexation strategy in order to create logical borders and to increase efficiency in the provision of services. Properties are considered for annexation when the City of Largo studies areas contiguous to the City of Largo that have become eligible for annexation, and the moves forward with the provisions of the agreements for these properties.

If you are a property owner interested in annexing into the City of Largo, visit the links below to obtain more information on the benefits of being in incorporated Largo, and how to start the process of becoming a Largo resident or business owner.

The Pinellas Planning Council has established a "Truth In Annexation" webpage. The webpage provides property owners in unincorporated areas who are considering annexation into a neighboring city the ability to compare the estimated differences in annual taxes and fees. To use this resource, visit www.pinellasplanningcouncil.org.

Securing Your Pet

You are not only responsible for disaster planning for yourself and your family - you are also responsible for disaster planning for your pets. Remember that pets are not permitted in shelters, which means that if you plan to go to a shelter, you must also make arrangements for your pet. There is limited space available at pet shelters such as veterinarians and kennels, so be sure to make your arrangements in advance. Be sure that your pets have had all of their shots within the past 12 months. Pet shelters will require proof of vaccinations.

After a storm, be cautious about letting you pet outside, as insects, animals and downed power lines can pose a serious threat to your pet. Do not let your pet consume food or water which may have become contaminated.. For more information, you can contact the SPCA , Pinellas County Animal Control or the Humane Society.

Housing Rehabilitation

If you've been thinking of a way to repair or improve your home, but have trouble finding the financing to do so, Largo's Housing Rehabilitation Program can help. The program provides low-interest loans to income-eligible homeowners to make improvements to their homes. The City of Largo will determine the approximate costs of the improvements, help you select a contractor and supervise the work in progress.

If it is determined that rehabilitation of your home is not cost-effective, you may wish to look into Largo's "Replacement Program", which provides financing assistance for demolition of your existing home and construction of a new home on your existing property.

Budget & CIP

Each year the City Manager proposes, and the City Commission approves, an annual Operating and Capital Improvements budget. This budget exists to set priorities, establish position control, determine expenditure limits, and prepare for needed revenue. The City of Largo budgets annually from October 1st to the following September 30th.

In addition to the annual budget, the Office of Management and Budget also prepares a five-year Capital Improvements Program and Long Range Financial Plan. This program plans revenues and large expenditures through the next five years. With the data reviewed as a part of this process, the City Administration can plan for financial changes far into the future. This helps the City of Largo stay financially, and administratively, stable.

Evacuation and Shelters

Evacuation zones are determined by the potential for storm surge damage to a property, based on its geographical location. However, mobile homes are particularly vulnerable to damage from windborne debris; for this reason, mobile home residents are required to evacuate during any level evacuation, regardless of the home's physical location. That is, even if a mobile home is located in a non-evacuation zone, residents of that home MUST evacuate during a level "A" evacuation. If you have consulted the map, but are still unsure of your evacuation zone, you can call Largo Fire Rescue at 727-587-6714 with your home address to find the evacuation zone for your specific property. You can also call the Pinellas County Interactive Voice Response System at 727-453-3150.

Listen to your local radio and television stations and government access channels for emergency broadcasts. If you are ordered to evacuate, you must do so immediately.
Remember:

IMPORTANT: If you have special needs and will require assistance in evacuation, you should register NOW with Largo Fire Rescue at 727-587-6714.

Shelters

There are options available to hurricane evacuees beyond crowded, uncomfortable shelters. Many of our area's hotels are in non-evacuation zones, and can offer your family the privacy and comfortable beds you enjoy at your own home. Do you have family or friends in the area? Your best bet may be a host home. Host homes are houses, apartments, or condominiums in a nearby non-evacuation zone. They are great options for families with pets, since most shelters and hotels do not accept pets. If you don't know anybody who can share their home, call your church, homeowner's association, or civic association to see if they participate in matching up host homes with evacuees.

If you are unable to stay with someone outside of the evacuation zone, Pinellas County offers public shelters. To view a list of shelters, visit the PInellas County Emergency Management website. Remember, not all shelters will be open during every storm, so check the county website to see the current status of each shelter before you go.

Environmental Control

Feather Sound Discharge Water Point

The Environmental Control Division is comprised of four separate programs focused on  wastewater regulation:
  • Industrial Pretreatment (IPP)
  •  Privately-Owned Collection and Transmission Systems (POCTS)
  • Commercial Users  (CU)
  • WWRF Laboratory
Division  staff perform extensive water testing and analysis at points throughout the wastewater treatment  facility, at discharge points into the lake system, and at industrial and privately owned collection points. The Division also  issues permits to all industrial and, commercial users, as well as to privately owned collection systems operators, to ensure  proper set up and management by these wastewater flow contributors. In doing so, Environmental Control programs  minimize the risks associated with the operation of the sanitary sewer system, and ensure that the system remains safe, efficient and reliable.

Housing Replacement

If it is determined that the "Housing Rehabilitation"program may not be cost-effective in bringing your home up to code standards, you may wish to look into Largo's "Housing Replacement"program. The City of Largo can provide financing assistance to help demolish your existing home and build a new home on your existing property. This is an ideal solution for those properties which may require extensive rehabilitation work. The first step in participating in the "Housing Replacement" program is to apply for the "Housing Rehabilitation" program. Once your application is completed and approved, the City of Largo will determine the costs of rehabilitation in comparison with replacement.
