Largo Police Department is a state and nationally accredited police department of excellence where every sworn officer, civilian staff member, and volunteer is committed to providing responsive and professional service to the residents of Largo. The Patrol Division is responsible for the uniformed patrol functions of the department including 24-hour response to the initial investigation of crimes and incidents, traffic enforcement and control, and accident investigation. Specialized units such as TAC, Traffic Safety, K-9 and the Motor Unit are also utilized.
This is general duty police work in the enforcement of laws and ordinances. An employee is responsible for the protection of life and property, for the prevention, detection, and investigation of crime and for maintaining law and order. Specific assignments are received as a result of calls for police service and from superior officers and are carried out in accordance with established rules and procedures. However, officers must be able to act without direct supervision in meeting emergencies and unusual situations.
The Communications Center of the Largo Police Department is one of two sections within the Support Services Division. The center is staffed with 24 full-time civilian Telecommunicators, and 4 Communication Supervisors for a total of 28 employees.
This is part-time specialized work controlling traffic, in conjunction with the movement of children to and from school, and is limited to those hours when school is opening, recessing, or closing.
